There are movie stars, there are icons, and then there are legends. John Wayne was all three and more.

The Duke transcended mere stardom, personifying not just a heroic presence on screen, but a bygone ideal of true Americana.

Mr. Wayne presented America – its ideals, its physicality, its history, its peculiar spirit – as America saw itself and in turn, how the world saw the country in the 20th century.

Some 40 years since his passing and last movie, to this day, John Wayne commands a top spot as our favorite actor of all time. Not just here in America, but across the globe.

"I know that my father, John Wayne, had a great respect for all people no matter what color race or sexual preference they were. He taught us to treat all people the same. He felt strongly that things should be earned, and not given to someone simply because they were a man or woman or one race or another. I hope that America remembers John Wayne for who he really was- a family man, a great friend, a cherished actor on the big screen, for his values and morals that have made him a role model for many and his continuing work to find a cure for cancer through the John Wayne Cancer Foundation and the John Wayne Cancer Institute." - as quoted by Ethan Wayne, Duke's youngest son in response to last year's rebuke by the California Assembly and their perceived false portrayal of The Duke!

In order to fully establish Mr. Wayne's significant historical importance in our great nations history, it essential that we establish the day of his birth, May 26th as National John Wayne Day.

Note: This is a petition to establish May 26 as National John Wayne Day. It is a grass roots, independent effort, not affiliated with such as John Wayne Enterprises, LLC and/or the John Wayne estate. It is not affiliated with the John Wayne Cancer Foundation, and is strictly dedicated to honoring the memory of John Wayne.

We, the undersigned, call on the President of the United States, to establish May 26 as National John Wayne Day.

Mr. Wayne presented America – its ideals, its physicality, its history, its peculiar spirit – as America saw itself and in turn, how the world saw the country in the 20th century.

He rightly deserves this day, as historical remembrance to his love of country and all her people that helped make the United States the great nation it truly is.
