I support the proposal before the Potsdam Board of Education to name the Potsdam Central School track complex in honor of Bill Lewis, PCS track & field coach 1963-1974.

Bill Lewis’ coaching record is one likely to never be matched at the school or at any Section 10 school: from 1963 to 1974 his teams took 3rd in the Section 10 championship (then the Van Dusen) in his first year of coaching, 2nd the following year and again in his final year, and won every year in between: from 1965 to 1973 his teams won 9 straight championships. No other school in the Section 10 championship history has ever won more than 6 straight.

His 1968 team set the meet record for most points scored by a team. His track & field athletes broke every PCS school record during those years and many of them lasted for years afterward.

Those records are the outer sign of his influence on the lives of his track & field athletes. What he gave to our inner lives cannot be measured in numbers...his influence persists and it has and will continue to shape our lives.

We, the undersigned, call on the Potsdam Board of Education to name the PCS Track Complex in honor of Coach Bill Lewis.

The Naming PCS Track for Bill Lewis petition to PCS Track Alum was written by Jeff Gardiner and is in the category Sports at GoPetition.
