Senator Jeffrey Klein introduced a bill which passed the State Senate which mandates the MTA to install plexiglass partitions on ALL MTA buses including express buses.

As the MTA has said before, plexiglass partitions are unnecessary on express buses because assaults are very rare on express buses, if there are any in the first place. Express bus customers and express bus operators also tend to have very good relationships with each other which also makes it difficult to have problems which lead to assaults.

Installing partitions on express buses would demoralize both express bus operators and express bus passengers and lead to a more hostile experience which would be detrimental to express bus service. Furthermore the money that the MTA spends on installing plexiglass partitions on express buses could be used to make service investments which truly benefit express bus customers and creates more work for express bus operators.

We the undersigned demand that the MTA not install plexiglass partitions on express buses, that the State Legislators repeal the portion of the proposed law which would mandate plexiglass partitions on express buses, and that Governor Cuomo vetoes any attempt to place plexiglass partitions on express buses.
