A memorial for Luisa DeLauro is in the process of being installed at the north end of Wooster Square Park. It has not been presented to the community for review and is not in keeping with the character of the park.
To The Parks Commission, The Historic District Commission, and Mayor John DeStefano:
We the undersigned DO NOT believe that the sculpture now being installed in Wooster Square Park in honor of the DeLauro family is appropriate for this historic setting.
We are concerned and dismayed that the project was not presented adequately to the many community members who use and love the park, nor properly reviewed at the New Haven Historic District Commission, nor brought to the Downtown Wooster Square Management Team for review.
The Parks Commission approved the sculpture with the stipulation that the neighborhood be in favor. We are not in favor. We ask that the project be stopped, and that an alternate site within the neighborhood be found for the sculpture.
