When one decides to run for President, they are no longer private citizens, but, rather officials running for a public office. If Mitt Romney were running for the office of CEO of the United States, rather than the Office of President, not knowing about his taxes would be acceptable.

Since he’s decided he wants to be President of the People, then he doesn’t get to set the rules, the public does. If he wants the America people to trust him, then he needs to show that he trusts them. He should do what every other presidential candidate for the past 36 years has done and that is show us his taxes.

This is not just a matter of showing us his taxes; rather, it is a matter of character. Releasing his taxes would really allow the American people to judge his honesty and his character.

Mitt Romney SHOW THE AMERICAN PEOPLE YOUR TAX RETURNS TO THE NOW!

Mitt Romney is running for the highest position we have in America. By his comments, and those of his surrogates, he suggests that the American people are not really interested in this matter. Moreover, he suggests that 2 years of tax returns are enough and he’s not going to share any more than that. He suggests that the rules be set by him, but the office he seeks belongs to the American people. Well as a candidate for President of the United States his tax returns are also the people’s business.

He is he wrong and here some reasons that the American people are right in asking to see his tax records:

• On August 9, 2012, CNN and NBC Sunday shows allowed Mitt Romney campaign surrogates to claim that the American people aren't interested in seeing more of Romney's tax returns, even as polling shows most Americans think Romney should release more of his returns.

Romney Adviser Eric Fehrnstrom: said Romney's Tax Returns "Are Not An Issue. It's Not What The American People Are Talking About." It's not what the American people are talking about." Guest host Jim Acosta failed to challenge Fehrnstrom's claim. From State of the Union: Well the facts reveal a different truth: CNN/ORC: 63 Percent Of Americans Want Romney To Release Additional Tax Returns. An August 9 CNN poll revealed that 63 percent of Americans believe Romney should release more of his tax returns. From the poll: [CNN/ORC, 8/9/12]

CNN/ORC: 67 Percent Of Independents Believe Romney Should Release More Of His Tax Returns. The CNN/ORC poll also found that 67 percent of independents believe Romney should release more of his tax returns. [CNN/ORC poll, 8/9/12]
Gallup: 54 Percent Of Americans Want Romney To Release Additional Returns. According to a July Gallup poll, a "majority of Americans (54%) say Mitt Romney should release additional tax returns."

Gallup's report included the following:

• Romney said that he had looked over his taxes for the past 10 years and found that he had never paid less than 13% of his earnings and that we would just have to trust him on that. Well, research has shown that in 2002, when he was running for Governor of Massachusetts, it was demanded that he release his tax returns to establish residency for at least seven years. Romney refused and refused then, as he has now, and insisted that the public take his word for it. Eventually, it was discovered that he had lied. He was forced to pay 7 years of Massachusetts taxes retroactively. What he said simply wasn’t true.

• This incident reveals a character flaw and demonstrates that he has the propensity to prevaricate on the facts that relate to his public life. “Why should we take him and what he says at face value? Is it 13% or as some believe is it zero?” As one prominent commentator has suggested, “the precedent for trusting him on this matter is not good. “
