Milos electricity lines and poles DEH

and all relevant Authorities in Europe

At this moment in the ancient area Fylakopi Milos Greece (and in many other beauty spots on the islands, including traditional villages and coast line) a high-voltage electricity line is installed by the Greek electricity company DEH, passing the archaeological area, the village and houses close by the sea.

This line is environmentally harmful, polluting the environment, defacing the archaeological site of high historical value, causing damage to health of population of this beautiful island also economically harming small and medium sized tourism businesses.

These poles and cables are laid without informing property owners, without informing local authorities, without transparent plans and without all the necessary and requested permissions and environmental planning by the Greek Electricity company DEH (Public Electricity Company), which is subject of discussion recently on European base for being unprofitable and which is pressured by the European Authorities to being privatized. DEH has changed its status to AE (private limited company) but does not apply European valid rules and legislation concerning convention of human rights (property rights).

That is why we call upon the above mentioned ministries to oblige the Company DEH.

1 to apply European legislation and protect property rights; (For the case that properties are affected to follow legal administration procedures- proceeded court decisions proving necessity and utility plus compensations);

2 To submit to all relevant local and national authorities transparent planning of poles and high voltage lines- with alternative solutions (undergoing sensitive regions by terrestrial lines or bypassing sensitive regions);

3 To protect sensitive regions-beauty spots, archaeological regions, tourism businesses, and keep those regions free of visible installations;

We consider the above even more important with regard to the future plans of the Company DEH Renewable Energies AE (Limited Company) to exploit Geothermal Energy on a big scale for power generation on Milos Island.

A thoughtful planning of transportation of electricity and of installation of lines today is especially crucial on this holy Island (as declared by the archbishop because of the ancient catacombs) in order to ensure a future protection of such important cultural and historic heritage.
