Make Butler Street safe for our children

Target: Brooklyn City Hall
Background (Preamble):
The block of Butler Street between Nevins Street and Bond Street is home to many families. As of July 2009, our street has been torn up by National Grid and the sidewalks have not been fixed. This is dangerous for the many children and elderly that live on our block.

The sewage of the house at 190 Butler Street empties onto the street. The "fix" has been to open the sewer, direct the sewage pipe into the sewer and put up pilons. Not only is this ineffective, it has also attracted vermin, (mice, rats and raccoons).

Among the obvious effects of having our block in disarray is the proclivitiy of street workers (prostitution and drug dealing) to less desirable looking blocks.

- fix sewer system
- repair sidewalks
- repair street and add speedbumps
- garbage cans at corners
- care of sidewalks in front of Pumping Station
- Care of sidewalk in front of vacant buildings
- vermin control (rats and raccoons)
- regular patrol against street workers.
Petition:
We, the undersigned, call on the city of Brooklyn to improve the quality of Butler Street between Nevins Street and Bond Street, feel it is our right as taxpayers to have these basic needs of neighborhood safety to be dealt with in a timely and serious manner.
