Your Excellency,
We would like to take this opportunity to call your attention and urge the immediate release of several Iranian prisoners of conscience.
Currently, many journalists, bloggers, lawyers, students and human rights activists have suffered heavy sentences, or are in Iranian prisons, for expressing their dissent.
Every Iranian citizen must always feel free to act according to his conscience. Expressing a thought or acting to protect an innocent person must not deprive them of the fundamental right to freedom.
We are deeply concerned about the sentences suffered, the arrests, the detention and the current living conditions in Iranian prisons.
Recall the arrest of three Iranian filmmakers.
Mr. Mohammad Rasoulof and Mr. Mostafa Al-Ahmad were arrested on Friday 8 July 2022.
Mr. Jafar Panahi was arrested on July 11th. A story that recalls how the arrests of innocent people are a serious violation of human rights.
Ms. Soori Babaei Chegini, a rights activist protesting the requirement that women wear the hijab in public, was arrested on the evening of July 13, in the city of Qazvin, northwest of Tehran.
Mr. Ahmadreza Djalali, Iranian-Swedish disaster medicine doctor, lecturer and researcher, was arrested in April 2016 in Iran and sentenced to death on the charges of espionage and treason. Mr. Djalali, was tortured and threatened during the period of his arrest.
UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS - Article 19
Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression including the right not to be harassed for his or her opinion and the right to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.
We are concerned about human rights defenders sentenced to serve prison terms in jails, places where they could contract the COVID-19 coronavirus. A potentially deadly virus in overcrowded prisons.
We point out and send the list of some prisoners of conscience:
Nasrin Sotoudeh (human rights lawyer), Narges Mohammadi (human rights defender), Amirsalar Davoudi (human rights lawyer), Kioomars Marzban (writer and satirist), Amirsalar Davoudi (human rights lawyer), Farhad Meysami (human rights defender), Mahmoud Salehi (laborer rights activist), Ayatollah Seyed Hussein Kazemeyni Boroujerdi (Shiite cleric dissident), Hussein Rajabian (filmmaker), Saeed Shirzad (civil rights activist and political prisoner), Zia Nabavi (student rights activist), Ahmad Karimi (political activist), Amir Amirgholi (university student), Omid Alishenas (civil rights activist), Abodlfattah Soltani (human rights lawyer), Soheil Arabi (prisoner of conscience), Saba Kord Afshari (prisoner of conscience), Marzieh Amiri (journalist and student activist), Afarin Chitsaz (journalist), Leyla Sabzali Jama'at (teacher), Behnaz Zakeri Ansari (prisoner of conscience), Nooshindokht Mirbagheri (prisoner of conscience), Reyhane Hajebrahimdabagh (political activist), Maryam Akbarimonfared (political activist), Fatemeh Mosan (prisoner of conscience), Zahra Zehtabchi (prisoner of conscience), Elham Barmaki (prisoner of conscience), Roya Saberinejad Nobakht (prisoner of conscience), Zahra (Nadereh) Rastgou (prisoner of conscience), Maryam Alangi (prisoner of conscience), Ameneh Jaberi (prisoner of conscience), Azita Rafizadeh (prisoner of conscience), Golrokh Ebrahimi Iraee (writer and human rights activist), Sotoudeh Fazel (prisoner of conscience) and Soheila Hijab (human rights lawyer).
