Last week the cost of a resident's controlled parking zone (CPZ) yearly permit in Lewisham has gone up from £35 to £60, that's 41.3% in one stroke and at a time when we are all asked to tighten our belts.

This example clearly shows how much we are at risk if the contracts that the Council negotiates on our behalf don't include enough guarantees to protect the public against unreasonable price increases.

Unfortunately contracts are not available for public scrutiny as their content is of a commercially sensitive nature.

We need a new and transparent form of protection of the public against contractors with profiteering tendencies.

This petition asks for a simple guarantee against unreasonable price increases between contracts to become standard practice for Lewisham Council.

It also asks that the current CPZ contract be rescinded and re-negotiated.

We the undersigned ask Lewisham Council to rescind the contract with the current CPZ operator because of the sudden and unreasonable 40% price increase imposed to the public in this historical moment when prices of public services ought to be more then ever under control.

We also ask that any future contract between the Council and its contractors include a clause stating that contractors wishing to increase their prices above a certain reasonable amount (amount to be made known to the public) need to re-apply for the contract.

The Keep profiteers away from Lewisham contracts petition to Lewisham Council was written by Max Calò and is in the category Government at GoPetition.
