There has of late been much talk from chief police officers in the UK esp. England that politicians should not be controlling the police, esp. the Metropolitan Police in London. But the Politicians are an elected body to the Parliament of the UK.
The Police are a rank and file organisation of civil law, and have great powers over us all. They have a number of Associations, Federations, and Organisations which speak their cause almost daily.
But there is only one Parliament, and that is elected.
My petition is that the police, whether or not they are a fine body of officers, or not, must come under the control of the elected parliament, and must be seen to be.
We the undersigned, call on the people of England to state that the English police forces, esp. the Metropolitan forces must understand that the elected parliament is the control of the police and not the police the control of parliament.
