Background (Preamble):
The Rhode Island General Assembly House of Representatives has introduced Bill #H8209 to eliminate all tuition waivers for Rhode Island public higher education employees. Eliminating tuition waivers will not save money for the state of RI and will, in fact, cost the state money in future contract negotiations.
This benefit is enjoyed by all employees of public and private colleges and universities throughout the United States.
Abolishing this benefit discriminates against RI higher education employees and creates a financial hardship.

We, the undersigned, petition the Rhode Island General Assembly, both the Senate and the House of Representatives, to quash Bill #H8209 immediately.
