The petition has been delivered to the Chancellor of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Budget cuts will still be made, but we are trying to devise a plan to prevent the reduction of admittance. Thank you so much to everyone who signed the petition and supported our cause!
*According to Tennessee Center for Nursing, Inc., Tennessee's total shortage for Registered Nurses will grow to 9,000 by year 2020.
* However, the University of Tennessee is cutting enrollment for their Nursing Program by 50%.
* Money needs to be cut from somewhere, but cutting the Nursing Program is NOT the answer. Reducing enrollment in a popular and competitive program will only add to the problems of our community. Also, students who graduate from nursing school can immediately find jobs; therefore, earning a salary, paying taxes, and spending money, which would stimulate the economy.
* The nursing shortage will increase quicker, leaving overworked nurses unable to give quality care to patients. This decision affects not only prospective nursing students but the entire community.
We, the undersigned, call on the University of Tennessee to do everything it can to prevent reducing the Nursing Program's enrollment.
Nurses are important in our community for giving quality care to the sick.
Reducing enrollment will not only affect the prospective students, but hospitals, current RNs, and members of the community.
