Keep Lori Creed in the classroom

Lori Creed has been notified by Asst. Supt. Charles Graham (acting for Dr. Ashley Hinson) that her employment with Surry County Schools will end June 30, 2009.

This is a disservice to every young person that will not have the opportunity to learn under Mrs. Creed.

Lori Cooke Creed was one of the very first recipients of the North Carolina State Teaching Fellows. She graduated with honors from Appalachian University and returned to Surry County to begin her teaching career. Since beginning her career she has obtained her Master's Degree in Education and added several certifications to her achievements.

During the past 15 years she has taught at Gentry Middle School, Meadowview Middle School and the Surry Early College High School.

She was selected by her peers at Meadowview Middle, and Surry Early College as "Teacher of the Year".

In school year 2006-2007 her students in English I received EOC scores that were among the highest in the state of North Carolina. That was Mrs. Creeds first year teaching high school English.

During the current school year of 2008-2009 she taught English II for the first time. Again her students writing assessment scores were the top in Surry County.

Mrs. Creed shares a very good relationship with her students and their parents. This testament has been verified by the number of cards, letters, and phone calls she has received from parents and former students.

Mrs. Creed has always been devoted to her students. She loves their energy and excitement for learning. To remove her from the classroom would be a grave injustice to both her and the young people of Surry County.

Why would the School Board that is elected by the general public want to dismiss a teacher with the credentials, integrity, and love for teaching as exemplified by Mrs. Creed.
