For 300 years Native Americans have been treated horribly. We as Americans have taken their land, forced them to move and forced them to change their names. It is time that we change something about us. This is extraordinarily racist, using something that we don't have permission to use for publicity for the sports teams.
We, the town of North Haven, are calling for a change to names and mascots that are racist and very disrespectful to Native Americans.
We need to make a stand and stop this injustice.
There is a line between tradition and exploitation, between personal offense and institutionalized insensitivity, between capitulating to political correctness and doing what's right.
The North Haven Indians and their schools are on the wrong side of that line.
Time to say No to a stubborn disregard for the feelings of Native Americans.
