Background (Preamble):
Invercargill Licensing Trust - A petition to establish requirement for Invercargill Licensing Trust to hold a referendum to determine ongoing support for Trust status in the city.
The privileges enjoyed by the Invercargill Licensing Trust in the city have many and wide repercussions - effecting liquor sales, economic conditions, competitive advantage and freedom. If 15% of the local electorate declare a need, the Trust must hold a referendum: http://www.justice.govt.nz/pubs/reports/1997/liquor/licensing.html describes the situation and the options.
For over 12 months the site www.iltsurvey.co.nz has run a website to judge the cities feelings abut the presence and behaviour of the Trust, and this has been well subscribed.
This petition is to fomalise te process in the light of lack of support from the ILT.
