For too long, thugs have used the pier as their personal play ground and terrorised locals, well it's about time it stopped.
Everyone should feel safe and free to use the Urangan pier at any time without the threat of bullying, harassment, theft, intimidation or assault.
A bunch of local youths are using the pier to target elderly, disabled as well as many other members of the community and I for one have had enough.
Hervey Bay is a tourist hot spot and what does it say about our town when one of our icons is labelled a "no go" zone by locals? If we are not safe on the pier, then how will our tourists feel? I doubt many will be sending friends or family this way if they receive the same ill treatment that our locals have.
By installing CCTV cameras on the pier, thugs, vandals, thieves and the like can and will be held accountable for their actions.
The community is taking a stand and we want the pier back, so all locals can utilise it.
We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge our leaders to act now to install CCTV cameras on the Urangan Pier to increase safety and security on the Urangan Pier.
