Residents in long-term care homes have identified several popular and recurring issues regarding quality of care, staffing shortages, and quality of food; however, it is evident the issue comes down to funding. The government does provide a significant amount of money to the homes.
Nonetheless, there is still a great deficit. The heart of the matter is that seniors have minimal financial resources to afford care, and as such families should not be expected to carry this burden for their incapable relatives.
Because of their inadequate resources, I suggest senior care should have increased coverage by the regional government. I am advocating for, on behalf of fellow nursing students and seniors alike, a reallocation of resources from policing and related services to senior services.
Seniors have spent their lives giving to society; it is fair that the public is reciprocal in this contribution.
We, the undersigned, call on the Niagara Region to allocate more tax dollars to the long-term care facilities of the region.
