Description/History:
Addictions Services in Ontario have declined in quality for the last 14 years while demand has increased. Drug use in Ontario has been a growing problem and has increased as much as 50% over a ten year span in some Ontario cities.
Funding for such services was on a 12 year freeze followed by two small funding increases in 2004 and 2007 which increased funding by 3% and 1.5%. These have not met the rate of inflation let alone increased demand.
As a result our addictions services are failing leaving addicts nowhere to turn except long waiting lists. The ripple effects of this cost the government and private industry an estimated $34 Billion annually.
