Petition for the suspension of early cuts, an end to the VAT rise and an immediate election:

We the undersigned note that the majority of people in the United Kingdom voted on May 2010 against the early cuts programme and the VAT increase announced by the current coalition government.

A coalition government which only enjoys a Parliamentary majority because the Liberal Democrats, who attracted votes on the basis they were against a VAT increase and early cuts, ignored this promise to those who voted for them and, in the case of Nick Clegg, have admitted they secretly agreed with early cuts.

Therefore the current coalition government has no honest democratic mandate to implement this programme since people voted on the basis that the Liberal Democrats were against early cuts and a VAT rise. Along with the other parties who also oppose early cuts and a VAT rise there was a clear majority in the United Kingdom in terms of both Parliamentary seats and votes against those policies.

We therefore call for:

1. An immediate suspension of the cuts announced for this financial year by the coalition government and which a majority of the people voted against.

2. Any plans for an increase in VAT to be abolished immediately since a majority of the people voted against such an increase.

3. An immediate election to be called so the people can vote on the basis of what they now know was the secret agenda of the Liberal Democrats and which a majority of the people voted against - that being the introduction of cuts this year and a VAT increase.

Since the Liberal Democrats policy is that there should be recall elections if 10% of constituents expressed a wish for a recall election we also believe that should this petition attract the support of 10% of those who voted in the 2010 General Election then it is incumbent on the Liberal Democrats to cross the floor and support other parties in ensuring the implementation of those three points.
