City Council was addressed on Monday, December 8th, concerning the homeless not having a warm place to sleep during our Winter months. This is a critical situation in Delaware.
Just over the weekend a young man was at the Andrew's House and stopped breathing. An ambulance was called and he was rushed to the hospital. After numerous test, they stated that he had bronchitis. They gave him some medication and sent him back out in the cold. Had he not been at the Andrew's House, he probably would have died.
As a resident of the city of Delaware, I recognize the need for a homeless shelter and am petitioning city council to work with other agencies as appropriate to create and support a homeless shelter within the city of Delaware.
I request the city take an active part in this initiative including providing financial support.
Human Service needs must receive top priority.
