Over the last few years it has been proven through different case studies that there was a need for Internet solutions within Rural communities due to factors ranging from poverty, educational background and unemployment just to name a few. Doing comparison between developed (Suburban) areas and rural areas it was evident that there was a huge gap to fill due to a high demand for an internet source to cater for the less fortunate in order to assist them with basic literacy needs, seeking employment and educational programs. Such introduction of internet in rural areas would serve as one of the key elements towards helping with poverty alleviation through opportunities rising from online employment applications and enhancement of skill for the disadvantaged on the use of Internet.
Internet has become a necessity as it forms part of our day to day activities. From communication, to social media as well as a research tool.
Our surrounding Businesses (Mines) have a social responsibility to assist where a need arise for our community to advance its interests in opportunities which would help grow our people, as well as give skill to embetter their lives.
It is therefore on that note that we seek assistance from Sibanye-Stillwater to make it a reality for our community to have Internet WiFi hotspots within designated areas in our Greater Sibanye Communities (Bapong, Modderspruit, Majakaneng, Segwaelane, Wonderpark, Marikana, Mooinooi).
The assistance would ensure that our people not only become exposed to opportunities of learning and/or internet research but also curb on internet costs which only a few can afford.
