Friends and neighbours; we know we have a problem with traffic on Glasgow Street. Who hasn't seen the cars racing up and down our street, or been on a walk and felt unsafe, or watched heavy commercial trucks use our street as a thorough-fare.

Despite this, Glasgow still doesn’t qualify for traffic “calming measures” while many other streets have. The City “calms” only 2 streets a year and today we’re still only 17th on the priority list. 94% of the 40,000 cars using the street every week exceed the posted speed limit. If that doesn’t qualify for calming, we’re not sure what does.

Simple measures, like stop signs, are summarily rejected by our Traffic Department. They agree that traffic is moving too quickly on Glasgow but they say stop signs would increase the danger to vehicles and pedestrians because people won’t obey them! Is it possible that the Traffic Department is more concerned about traffic flow than about the safety and quality of life of Glasgow residents?

We have a K-6 school on our street with 100s of kids that cross the street daily. We need to act now to make Glasgow Street a better, safer street for everyone.
