India happens to have an elaborate Table of Precedence (https://www.mha.gov.in/sites/default/files/table_of_precedence.pdf) spanning across 26 Articles, but none of them even remotely incorporates the importance of Academia - the fifth estate. A formal recognition of the Institution of Academia as collectively represented by the Hon'ble University Vice-Chancellors would go a long way in accomplishing the collective national goals across.
We, the undersigned, call upon Dr. Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, Hon'ble Chairperson, Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education to consider the extension of the similar Order of Precedence to the University Vice-Chancellors as is extended to the UPSC Chairperson, in due formal recognition of the Primacy of the Institution of Academia - the fifth estate - in the 75th Year of Independence of the Republic of India.
