Despite achieving the highest possible levels of success in her sport on the international stage, Muay Thai Kick Boxer Julie Kitchen’s nomination to be a Torchbearer at the London 2012 Olympics was rejected.

Julie participates in countless events for schools and charities, raising awareness of key issues, promoting fitness and wellbeing, and being a leading ambassador for women in sport. She runs her own successful Kick Boxing gym in Penzance, and is a mother to twin daughters, who themselves are title winning fighters!

In a good year, women's sports coverage makes up just 5% of all sports media coverage, according to the annual study by the Women's Sport and Fitness Foundation, and a report from the Commission on the Future of Women's Sport shows that only 0.5% of all sponsorship in the UK goes to women's sport.

Julie is an inspiration to many people, and it is only fair that her achievements finally get the recognition they deserve!

We the Undersigned call for Sebastian Coe, and the Olympic Torch Relay Panel to include Julie Kitchen on the Olympic Relay route in Penzance, Cornwall.

Julie is a highly successful international Muay Thai Kick Boxer; and an inspirational figure for many people in her local community, and around the world. Her titles include 13 times World Champion, 3 times European Champion, 7 times British Champion, and Intercontinental and English Champion.

She has represented Penzance and Cornwall with pride for many years, and is a role model for women in sport. Please let her carry the torch through Penzance.
