I/We are afraid that if journalists continue in this practice, the passage of the Freedom Of Information Bill will be jeopardized.

I/We vehemently condemn journalism practiced this way and call on:

The Nigerian Government in particular, the Presidency,
The National House of Assembly (especially the Committees on Human Rights, and the Committee of Justice)
The Inspector General of Police
The Ministry of Justice
The National Human Rights Commission
The Nigerian Union of Journalists

• To take swift action to secure the lives and livelihoods of citizens of Nigeria that have been wrongfully outed by the media and made targets of various acts of violence, and to put measures in place to avoid future occurrences.

I/We also call on:

• The Nigerian President to ensure that the human rights of LGBTI individuals in Nigeria are not violated.

The Nigerian Police and CID to protect LGBTI individuals from all forms of violence and abuse.

• The Media to uphold the ethics and tenets of responsible media practice.

LGBTI individuals are human beings and deserve to have their fundamental human rights protected.
