Iranian Azerbaijani Human Rights Activist Detained In Tehran
Tuesday, 10 May 2011 03:50

7 Iranian Security Forces attacked Said Naimi's home in Karaj on May 09, 2011 at 6AM and arrested him using excessive force, beating him and using threatening behaviour toward his wife, Saida Islami. The forces confiscated his and his wife's personal belongings, computer, books and cell phones. His whereabouts have not been known yet.

Said Naimi is an Azerbaijani Turkish human rights activist, journalist, a founder member of the Committee for the Defence of Azerbaijani Political Prisoners (ASMEK) and the Turkish Student Association of Zanjan University, a member of Office for Strengthening Unity (an Iranian student organization) and the Committee for the Defence of Prisoners' Rights [in Iran].

About 10 years ago, after starting an increasing arrest rate of Azerbaijani civil rights activists in Iran with the silence of Iranian human rights organizations, Said Naimi, along with three other friends decided to create a group to advocate the rights of Azerbaijani activists. As a result, the Committee for the Defence of Azerbaijani Political Prisoners (ASMEK), as the first Azerbaijani human rights organization [in Iran] was founded in December 2002.
