Petition Background (Preamble):
This is a petition regarding the inadequacy of free parking available in East Lansing, Michigan. Also, it is designed to address the frequency of parking citations given.
Petition:
We, the undersigned, request the City of East Lansing to accommodate its residents and visitors with automobiles in a manner that is affordable to them. Most cities in Michigan allow free street parking in residential areas and free metered parking after 5:00 pm during the week, and all day on the weekends.
In a city that is populated mostly by students, it is unreasonable and not practical to charge for parking and/or have such severe financial consequences for violations.
This has gone on too long, and it is time to make a difference.
