UPDATED June 16, 2014 -- Iranian reformist journalist Hossein Noorani Nejad has been sentenced to six years in prison by the notorious Judge Salavati of Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court, who issued a statement explicitly stating that he wished by this verdict to intimidate any other oppositionist Iranians living abroad from returning to Iran.
Mr. Noorani Nejad has been released from prison on 300 Million Toman bail. He has twenty days to appeal this six-year prison sentence.

April 24, 2014--Hossein Nurani Nejad, a member of the prominent reformist Mosharekat party who had recently returned to Iran, has been arrested.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Hossein Nurani Nejad, a journalist and a member of Mosharekat party was arrested by the IRGC intelligence forces on Monday, April 21 2014.
He had been arrested and imprisoned for one year in 2009 and left Iran to study abroad afterwards. He returned to Iran one month ago to visit his family.
An informed source told HRANA: “The agents seized his personal documents and property as well.”
WHEREAS: Iranian journalist and reformist party activist Hossein Noorani Nejad is "guilty" of nothing more than exercising his internationally-recognized right to peaceful express and disseminate his political and social views;
AND WHEREAS: The arrest, trial and six-year prison sentence imposed upon Hossein Noorani Nejad is therefore ILLEGAL under Articlese 18 & 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (to which Iran is s signatory) and Article 24 of the Iranian constitution;
THEREFORE: We, the undersigned urge the international community at all levels to call upon the Islamic Republic of Iran to live up to its legally-binding human rights obligations by IMMEDIATELY and UNCONDTIONALLY reversing this ILLEGAL prison sentence imposed on Hossein Noorani Nejad and drop all charges against him.
