Twenty two states have free, or reduced fees, for fishing licenses for their elderly citizens. There are 39 bills introduced in 25 states which deal with reduced or free licenses for their senior citizens.
The cost for a California fishing license has risen over the years from $2.00 to an exorbitant $47.01 (basic) in 2015.
To enjoy their final years by occasionally fishing, a senior citizen must now expend a large percentage of their income by purchasing a costly license.
Reduce the cost of a fishing license for those individuals who have reached the age of 65 to a maximum of $5.00.
For those individuals who have reached the age of 70, provide a free lifetime fishing license upon application and proof of age.
