In Brisbane, a new road tunnel (the Legacy Way) between Toowong and Kelvin Grove is currently being built. As part of this project, the Moggill Road and Western Freeway interchange is being upgraded prior to the tunnel opening in 2015.
The roadwork for this Moggill Road and Western Freeway interchange upgrade are taking 18 months causing significant noise pollution for residents surrounding the area.
Further to this a large number of trees have been removed which had provided a natural noise barrier to the traffic. Traffic and roadwork machinery noise are now a constant interruption to home tranquility for residents in this area.

The petition of residents of Indooroopilly and Chapel Hill in the State of Queensland draws your attention to the significant increase in noise pollution caused by the Moggill Rd upgrade that is currently being undertaken by Main Roads.
The ongoing noise from works and the removal of trees have increased traffic and works noise levels disturbing residential peace and quiet. It is expected that the increased traffic utilising the Legacy Way and Moggill Rd once the upgrade is complete and Legacy Way opened will also mean the continuation of increased traffic noise.
The petitioners below therefore request that sound barriers and trees are installed along the slip road from Moggill Rd entering the Western Freeway and along residential sections of the Western Freeway. Please see attached map for indications of residential areas requiring noise reduction sound barriers and tree planting.
