Currently, no Greco-Roman National Championship is held for women to compete in. There is only a men's Championship. Introducing a women's Championship would be the next big step for women in wrestling.

Female wrestling has come a long way in a short period of time. Women didn't start wrestling until the 1980's, the first women's World Championship was in 1987. Women's wrestling wasn't in the Olympic Games until 2004 in Athens, where Tonya Verbeek brought home a silver medal, Canada's only medal for wrestling.

The sport of wrestling, especially for women, is growing substantially, and this is the next step it needs to take.

Canadian Amateur Wrestling Association:

We, the undersigned, hereby submit the following petition which requests the introduction of female Greco-Roman wrestling at the national level, with modified rules.

We feel this opportunity for female wrestlers to compete would not only increase the interest in the sport, but also improve current female wrestlers' freestyle finesse and technique.

In conclusion, it is our belief that by allowing women to wrestle Greco-Roman National Championships, it would take female wrestling to higher levels at both national and international competitions.

Sincerely,
