Same sex marriage equality is not present in the United States today. Although only two out of the fifty states outright ban same sex couples from adopting the remaining forty-eight states make it nearly impossible for same sex couples to adopt.
Most of the remaining forty-eight states require adoptive parents to be married and as of 2012 only six out of the fifty states have legalized gay marriage. thus making it very difficult for gay couples to adopt.
We, the undersigned, call on the United States Department of Health and Human Services to equalize the requirements for the adoption of children by same sex couples.
