End the war in Iraq
This petition was published by Hechuan Lin on Mar 12, 2007
On Match 20, 2003 at approximately 2:30 UTC or about 90 minutes after the lapse of the 48-hour deadline, at 5:33 local time, explosions were heard in Baghdad. There was now evidence that various Special Forces and Special Operations troops from the coalition crossed the border into Iraq. Bush gave four reasons for the war:
To spare the people of Iraq from further suffering resulting from an oppressive, brutal dictatorship
To rid the region of weapons of mass destruction under development by Saddam Hussein as called for by various UN resolutions
To install free democracy within Iraq and ultimately the surrounding region for the benefit of the people.
To sever connections between Saddam Hussein (and his weaponry) and international terrorist groups of threat to the West.
First of all, let’s talk about the first the third reason why U.S. government decided to begin the war. The White House always likes talking about human right and democracy in other counties. But what about America itself? Here is some information from an authoritative report. Up to December 31, 2006, the number of American privately owned firearms was the first; causing 5.2 million violent crimes happened in the past year. The ratio and number of prisoners in the United Stated was the first in the world, the prisoners were treated badly, and the abuse of prisoners was widespread. Apartheid, racial discrimination in America is deep-rooted. Blacks and other ethnic minorities are being discriminated against in employment. Black unemployment rate is twice than that of whites. Let’s back to the war. What happened after the war? I actually don’t know how oppressive and brutal the Saddam was before, but I know now how anguished the Iraqi are. Over 655 thousand Iraqi civilian died during the war and the number is increasing continually. Otherwise, the American troop cost has been over 3 thousand lives. That means there are over 3 thousand families in grief.
