The New York Consent and Sexual Assault Framework for Education Act (NYC SAFE Act/Bill S03909A), requires students K-12 to receive age appropriate education, while 7-12 will undergo more in depth consent and sexual violence/assault education in schools. With the large groups of victims currently coming forward in the media, the #MeToo campaign, and the many perpetrators of sexual assault blaming ignorance or cultural norms, the passing of this Bill is more important than ever. This Bill is intended to 1. Help students identify sexual assault 2. Demonstrate how, what to report to who 3. To Define consent 4. Teach respecting other’s bodies and boundaries. 5. Build awareness and understanding of what is and is not acceptable. This petition is to demonstrate public support and to get this bill out of Committee and on the floor to a vote.
We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge our leaders to act now to bring to the floor and vote in favor of Bill S03909A (NYC SAFE Act).
