Eliminate the use of Purchase Transports

Section 8(a)(3) of the National Labor Relations Act provides that "(i)t shall be an unfair labor practice for an employer by discrimination in regard to hire or tenure of employment or any term or condition of employment to encourage or discourage membership in any labor organization."

FedEx Freight management has become aware that employees at some, but not all, of the company’s service centers have expressed interest in forming a union to improve their working conditions.

FedEx Freight management has stated publically that, “…it's cheaper to use Purchased Transport, then to use Union workers", to move their freight. To discourage organizing efforts, management has increasingly been subcontracting the work at service centers with solid support of the Teamsters Union, thereby eliminating the work of company employees.
