The Electric city chicken movement started due to the increasing demand of a healthier and self sustainable lifestyle.

Many communities around the world are approaching their city governments and asking them to consider changing laws that prohibit hens, and for many reasons: Chickens are a great form of pest control. They consume ticks, mosquitoes, fleas, worms, grubs, flies, spiders, ants, and even mice and small rodents. Chickens also consume garden weeds. Chickens consume large quantities of food scraps, which decreases food waste that would otherwise go into landfills. Chickens also produce waste which is rich in nitrogen and is great for plants, gardens, and the compost. Chickens are also a great demonstration for the younger generation to show them how to live self-sustainable lifestyles, and where food comes from.

Backyard hens also allow citizens to have peace of mind in knowing that their hens were humanely treated. Hens are quiet by nature (unlike their male counterparts,)and provide no nuisance to others if kept under correct and humane conditions. Our goal is ultimately to allow Laying hens, to prohibit roosters for noise concerns, and to ensure that backyard hens are never a nuisance to others by having regulations that require upkeep requirements.

In signing this petition, you are supporting this cause and proving to The city of Anderson, that modifying the current ordinances in place is vital in better protecting our rights as citizens, and will help improve the quality of life within our town.

Founder, Electric city chickens movement

We, the undersigned residents of the city of Anderson, South Carolina, appreciate the need for healthy self-sustainable lifestyles.

We believe that small-scale backyard hen-keeping and the wholesome eggs they produce can be an integral part of sustainable urban agriculture.

We publicly seek modifications of the current ordinances so as to allow backyard hen keeping in Anderson neighborhoods, to limit the number of backyard hens, prohibit roosters, and to help ensure secure, proper and humane housing for hens.

Sincerely,

Residents of the city of Anderson.
