We support the following provisions in the Philadelphia teacher contract:
School-Based Hiring: The principal, staff, teachers, community members and parents should get to review resumes, conduct interviews and choose the best applicants for openings.
Stronger Teacher Incentives: We need to provide good incentives, such as support staff, experienced mentors and collaboration time, to help draw teachers to more challenging assignments.
High Professional Standards and Evaluations: Teachers need useful and timely feedback from their peers and their principal. They need time to collaborate and learn form one another.
Improve Teacher Training and Development: We need to make sure that training and development are customized to help fully develop teaching skills.
