Target:
Woollahra Council
Region:
Australia

Woollahra Council, at the request of the STA, and without consultation with residents, decided to install No Stopping and No Parking signs along the majority of Arthur Street Bellevue Hill. Arthur Street is a purely residential street.

The STA, after 30 years of traversing Arthur Street without incident or accident, now state that safety issues and discourteous drivers will necessitate the installation of No Stopping signs.

Residents purchased their properties without any restrictions to on-street parking.

In addition, residents' safety will be severely compromised with parking bans - as the speed of traffic will certainly increase. One would also expect an increase in traffic as drivers find an even smoother 'rat run' of Arthur Street and Suttie Road, Carlotta Road and Manning Road.

The ease of buses traversing our street should not come at a cost to our safety. We believe there are solutions - that are sane, safe, sensitive and sensible - to issues that buses may currently experience on our street.

We the undersigned strongly oppose the parking bans proposed for Arthur Street, Bellevue Hill and call on Woollahra Council to abandon the plan.

The basis of our opposition is as follows:

• Arthur Street is a 100% residential street.

• Residents and visitors rely on the on-street parking for needs of elderly,
disabled, carers, babies, children, various service and maintenance vehicles
and general visitors.

• The parking bans will greatly inconvenience residents and visitors alike.

• The residents of Arthur Street purchased their properties without restrictions to on-street parking.

• The residents of Arthur Street refuse to allow their amenity to be degraded.

In addition, we seriously object to the complete absence of community consultation prior to this proposal, and the disregard shown to the community in railroading the process through.
