In 2007, my younger brother was diagnosed with an eye disease called Stargardt's disease. This is a disease that has made his central vision rapidly decrease, leaving him very partially sighted. He has been classed as disabled and as a result he has been told that he can never do things like drive.

This has meant that my mother has to take him everywhere, as he cannot even get a bus as he cannot see the bus numbers or tell were about's he is, so as to get off at the right stop. My mother was told to apply for disability allowance and it was whilst we were in the process of doing this that we were told my brother would not be given a blue badge as he was fully able to walk. However, just because he is able to walk, it doesn't mean that he is able to get about. Even when we are with him, he struggles to get about because of the loss of his eyesight.

There are a number of people who are in exactly the same situation as we are, and regularly find on a day-to-day basis that they struggle as a result as being disabled, but being unable to get a blue, disabled badge.

We, the undersigned, call on the government to make disabled badges available to all those who are classed as disabled, not just people who are unable to walk.
