Dear Dr Amirul Ahsan, MAF302 Unit Chair

There has been widespread concern among Finance students regarding the final examination for MAF302. We feel that despite attending the necessary lectures and tutorials and reading assigned materials, we were not sufficiently prepared for the exam.

We were repeatedly assured by the teaching staff that the exam would only relate to relevant content presented to us during the semester. We were also assured that if we worked through the relevant revision materials and undertook the past exam papers that we would be adequately prepared for the exam. We do not believe this was the case.

Our concerns are summarised as follows:
- Some matters were not covered in the lecture content or there were variations of relevant content, which we were not asked to consider during the teaching or revision period.
- The repeated assurances that the exam questions would not stray too far from the past/practice questions led us into error.
- The current exam was significantly more difficult that past exams, especially considering the shorter teaching period.
- The wording of some questions was too ambiguous.

We feel that this has the potential to jeopardise the marks of many students or potentially cause them to fail due to the hurdle requirement. As many of us are completing our final trimester, I hope you can understand our concern here.

We ask that you please take the time to consider the request of this petition.

Regards
