A petition to the Prime Minister to lengthen sentences given due to dangerous driving.
The Criminal Justice Act 2003 increased the maximum penalty for causing death by dangerous driving from 10 to 14 years, but the courts hardly ever apply sentences at the top end of the range.
This is because judges follow guidelines on the factors they consider when sentencing someone found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving.
I am petitioning the Government to increase the amount of time that a person serves when they cause death by dangerous driving
Case: A Portuguese Lorry driver will appear before Crewe Magistrates on the 4 November, charged with 6 counts of causing death by dangerous driving. On the same day the funerals of David Statham and his wife Michelle, who were killed along side their four young children, Reece 13, Jay 8 and two babies Mason 20 months and Ellouise just 10 weeks old, when this lorry driver smashed into the back of their people carrier, flipping it into the air and underneath another lorry which then burst into flames.
Imagine the agony those poor babies suffered. Sign my petition to increase the amount of time people serve for causing such deaths.
We owe it to these children who will never live to see fourteen.
