United States of America

Cy-Fair ISD does not honor students completing 8th grade with a graduation ceremony. But they do have an annual awards ceremony, in which they only invite a selected number of 8th graders to come and be acknowledged for academic excellence and academic improvement.

I have not attended this ceremony but how it was explained to me by a teacher is that the students are selected by their teachers. This seems totally unfair and insensitive to the other 8th graders not selected but have very well work hard to proceed to high school. I must also add that they the 8th graders do have an 8th grade dance, which in my opinion is not significant for honoring the 8th graders accomplishments.

I believe there are other parents like me that would like to attend a celebration for their children provided by school administration. This way parents, teachers and others that contribute to helping our children succeed can celebrate together.

We, the undersigned,(Cy-Fair ISD parents, taxpayers and community) call on the Board of Trustees and Superintendent of the Cy-Fair ISD, to approve and start planning an 8th grade graduation ceremony for all 8th grade students qualified to proceed to high school the following school year.

At the very least administration should approve an acknowledgement of completion ceremony that parents can attend and participate, which can be incorporated in the annual awards ceremony, if officials prefer, with the exception that every 8th grader proceeding to high school shall be invited.

Our children work hard and deserve to be recognized for their accomplishments with an official celebration from school administration and teachers. Please show our children you care about their hard work and dedication toward their education!
