Residents of the surrounding roads of Holly Lane, in Banstead,Surrey are very concerned about the excessive speed of cars and have been for many years. Nothing has been done by the Borough Council, the County Council or the Police to help make this safer despite numerous accidents. In 2002 the police monitored the speed of traffic and found the average to be 37 mph., but declined to take action.
There is a narrow footpath on a bend in the road by the allotments where families walk to school and into Banstead. This is a highly dangerous spot and anyone who has walked there will have experienced the danger of constant speeding cars.
It is very fortunate that there have been no pedestrian fatalities, but if the Councils and the Police do not wake up to this risk and come up with traffic calming measures, we will surely face tragic consequences.
Please sign the petition in order to urge the authorities to take action now.
We, the undersigned, call on the Borough Council, the County Council and Surrey Police to act together and take measures to reduce the speed of traffic in Holly Lane immediately.
