On Friday Police raided storm a private TV channel amid Pakistan riots that police officers tear-gassed, kicking down doors, wrecking property and beat up journalists. The Geo satellite TV channel’s employees after editors refused to stop broadcasting footage of demonstrations in support of Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry and camera stationed on the rooftop of the building was filming anti-government demonstrations taking place on the streets below.

According to international media reported that in a sign of increasing global criticism, a group of 70 British lawyers, including Cherie Blair, the prime minister’s wife, had said that reports of the “humiliating treatment of the chief justice of Pakistan” were causing “great international unease and said that it was indicative of government's failure.

The incident showed that the government was devoid of morals, religious values and respect for the Constitution.

We, the undersigned, do not sit on the fence at this critical juncture in Pakistan's history. We must support the legal community and our journalists.
