U.S.T.A. sanctioned tennis tournaments rarely provide a doubles level consolation bracket.
The following petition was created to increase more tournament ‘play for pay’ for tennis doubles enthusiasts which could increase the number of ‘lifetime’ tennis players.
Having doubles consolation bracket will increase playing time which will increase local and out-of-town tennis players to enter more tournaments.
Tennis players that travel great distances and incur hefty travel costs will be more encouraged to stay the full weekend and, in turn, increase the volume of entries. Currently, all singles levels include a consolation bracket. The U.S.T.A. members playing doubles bring in almost double the total entry fee per court than singles.
The average ‘online entry fee’ for each singles player is around $31.00. The average ‘online entry fee’ for each doubles player is around $28.00. The ‘entry fee total per court’ for singles is $62.00. The ‘entry fee total per court’ for double is $112.00.
We hereby petition the U.S.T.A. and Texas tournament hosts and affiliates to increase all levels of doubles tournament play to include a consolation bracket.
We also petition the U.S.T.A. and Texas tournament hosts and affiliates to evaluate and possibly increase tournament points awarded in the consolation bracket.
