Background.
In May 2012 the NSW State Government Minister for Local Government and the Minister for Primary Industries appointed a Companion Animals Taskforce to provide advice on key companion animal issues and in particular strategies to reduce the current rate of companion animal euthanasia.
A Discussion Paper was prepared for Public Comment which included two propositions that were a cause for concern to responsible Dog Breeders. Although the Taskforce recommendations have not yet been published those members of Dogs NSW who reside in the Goulburn Electorate request that you familiarise yourself with the two propositions which we earnestly believe will not contribute to the desired outcome of reducing the current rate of companion animal euthanasia, but will penalise registered Dog Breeders who already comply with strict Codes of Conduct for the Keeping and Breeding of Dogs.
We call on the State Member for Goulburn Prue Goward MP to make representations to the Ministers for Local Government and Primary Industries regarding :
1. A further tier of Breeder Registration as outlined in the Dogs NSW submission to the Taskforce.
2.That Dogs NSW should be the regulatory body to oversee any further requirements imposed for Breeder Registration.
