Change The Salvation Army's Positional Statement on homosexuality

We, the undersigned, are Salvationists who believe The Salvation Army should alter its Positional Statement on "Human Sexuality". We believe the sentence,

"The Salvation Army teaches that sexual acts should take place only in a monogamous heterosexual marriage, believing that this reflects God's intentions for sexual behaviour and provides the best environment for raising children."

should be altered to allow for both opposite-sex and same-sex marriages.

We believe The Salvation Army should not proscribe homosexuality or bisexuality, and should allow same-sex relationships, including same-sex marriage.

We believe that proscribing homosexuality and bisexuality is harmful to same-sex attracted people, and that it is contrary to The Salvation Army's social justice mandate.

We have also noticed that The Salvation Army's proscribing of homosexuality and bisexuality is damaging The Salvation Army's reputation. Some people make a point of deliberately refraining from donating to The Salvation Army because of its position on homosexuality and bisexuality. Thus, The Salvation Army's proscribing of homosexuality and bisexuality is inadvertently hindering the good works that the organisation does.

Should The Salvation Army accept same-sex relationships, it would not be the first Christian denomination to do so. A number of Christian denominations already allow for same-sex relationships.
