Incest.....a word that can instantly put people into a rage.
Having studied this word and all it entails from the dawn of time to now, from its deepest sense to the cruel judgement of the lazy and naive... Incest is the sexual interaction of those that are blood related or are related by marriage. Sexual intercourse between mother and their child, father and their child, full or half siblings, full or half cousins or even a parent and adopted child.
With all I have read I feel that major changes need to be made in this umbrella law. Science has shown that children produced n these situations have only a 2% chance of having a birth defect. What is the percentage of birth defects or Down's that occurs in a birth from a woman over 35? Have they considered that most births from couples with the same DNA are occurring after these people have grown up and then met.....usually after the age of 30?
This taboo is in place because of the ICK factor involved not because there is a true scientific problem with it. Siblings that have grown up in the same home are completely different from people that have the same or half of the same DNA. For instance, if I grew up with a brother and then found out I had a half brother out there in the world somewhere...I would only feel that the sibling I grew up with was my brother.
The other person I do not consider my brother...I feel you have to earn that title. Just as there is the difference between the title of FATHER as compared to "sperm donor" . And why, might I ask, is it legal for a "brother" to donate his sperm to his sister so that she can conceive, but it is not ok if there was to be actual intercourse involved in that same process?
I feel that government and society has no right in deciding who would and should not fall in love and with whom they should and should not fall in love with. Incest should be considered a crime solely in the cases of the innocent people (children) that are being assaulted by those that they should feel no harm from.
Sexual assault toward ANYONE let alone your own flesh and blood should be severely punished.....openly wanting a loving caring relationship with one who happens to have some of the same DNA is NOT something that should be severely punished.
The changes that I feel should be made are as follows: I feel that incest and Megan's Law need to be the main focus here.
Megan's Law was made in order to protect innocent children that cannot protect themselves in a sexually dominant and abusive sense. Keep Megan's Law up and running to keep our children and those that can't protect themselves safe.
As for consenting adults that choose or happen upon a relationship with a person of the same DNA, I feel they should be left alone. Of course both need to be consenting. GSA is much larger than society might want to think. Research the false reasoning for having this taboo and you will find that there is NO good reason for this to be a taboo relationship.
We the undersigned petition the government to change the incest laws. We believe that keeping Megan's Law in place to protect the innocent should stay. We feel that scientific evidence holds up more strongly than what society feels is right or wrong.
We ask that the law of incest between half or full siblings or cousins be lifted so that those in these relationships may finally live without fear of prosecution.
