Petition Background (Preamble):
Forty years ago Peter Forbes founded a village in Devon for people with learning disabilities.
They were to have a home for life where they could enjoy a normal active life in a protected environment. The villagers were active in the local community, attended the local college, and enjoyed activities such as gardening, textiles woodwork, music and pottery.
Now the trustees have taken a business decision to close the village, break up the community and sell the site.
Some of the residents have lived at Blackerton for over 30 years, and such a move would be very traumatic.
Please support our petition to stop this closure;these vulnerable people should be allowed to stay in their homes.
