Campaign to Get a Large Statue of a Pug Dog in Brighton

As you well know, every great town and city has a statue of a bear (I’ve got all the photos of them). For a long time, too long really, I thought that a statue of a bear in the wonderful UK city of Brighton was one trick the place was missing.

Then, one morning, I was thinking about it again and suddenly something came to me. Why should Brighton have a bear? Loads of cities and towns have bears, it’s been done, it’s passé. Brighton needs something different, something that sets us apart, something that no other place in the world has. And then it came to me. Brighton needs a large (and it must be large) statue of a pug dog. It makes perfect sense. Here in Brighton (population 155,000) there are billions of pugs. It seems everyone has got about 22 of them. I’m not complaining though, pugs are ace. But wouldn’t it be good to give a nod of recognition to those billions of little dogs and their owners? A large statue of a pug would be a visible way of showing that here, in this great city, we love our animals and we love our animal owners. Adults would love the statue, children would climb on the statue and seagulls would sit on the statue (amongst other things). Everybody wins. And let’s not forget a landmark. The pug statue would become instant landmark. Instant!
